The Langham Hotel
Ever since its grand reopening last year, The Langham, London’s floral, feminine and primarily pink advertising campaign has had me intrigued. Romantic butterflies, ball gowns, beautiful flowers and buttercream cupcakes – all alluding to the hotel’s extensively refurbished charms – frequently adorn the back covers of magazines and many London taxis. Tempting for the ladies of this town, perhaps, but how about the gents? I resolved to find out more.
The Langham was originally opened in 1865 as Europe’s first ‘Grand Hotel’, and from the outset it advertised an unrivalled location in the heart of London. This remains the case today – situated at the top of Regent Street, just a short stroll away from both Bond Street and Regent’s Park, it can still lay claim to being the most centrally located luxury hotel in London. Moreover, the Langham continues to impress its guests as a destination for the discerning business and leisure traveller where a premium is placed on the perennial of gracious hospitality (though not at the expense of modern essentials).
Proof of this can be found in The Langham’s 25 newly upgraded one- and two- bedroom luxury suites. All of them have fully renovated bedroom and sitting room accommodation, with the overall design concept of an English residence combining contemporary and traditional elements.
Exceptionally impressive is the new, £1 million Regent Suite. 166 square metres in size and located atop the hotel’s main entrance, the suite benefits from original high ceilings and large bay windows affording beautiful views over Regent’s Park. Its privacy and security will appeal to diplomatic visitors and high-profile guests, while a pre-arrival menu (supplied by the 24-hour personal butler service) enables guests to personalise their stay: options include personal exercise equipment, private in-suite dining and hospitality, qualified nanny services, exclusive casino membership and private chauffeur services.
Have no fear, gentlemen – notwithstanding the blissfully comfortable bedding, endless fluffy towels and complimentary products wrapped in pretty pink boxes, you’ll feel quite comfortable here too. After all, sumptuous rooms, contemporary decor and furnishings and excellent service are surely all elements that transcend gender.
And if you’re still looking for something a bit more masculine, then The Langham has just launched a pop-up cigar terrace for the summer season, offering guests an al fresco venue in the heart of London. Cigar aficionados will be able to enjoy a range of cigars from Hunters & Frankau and Davidoff, and there’s also an indoor lounge and bar for guests keen to watch the World Cup or Wimbledon finals on a large plasma-screen TV.
